Frisky Maria, a summer infusion

What a treat to walk around and be inspired by summer! Yesterday I walked in our village enjoying the aromas of the gardens around me. The aroma of lavender was one of those aromas that really kept lingering. What an insane smell it has, just fantastic! It had me thinking of creating a cocktail with a lavender infusion.

I had a bit of Brokers gin in my bar that was begging for an infusion, seemed like the perfect base for a cocktail with lavender. First of all the infusion…

Take a few ounces of gin and put a handful of fresh lavender in the gin. Let that macerate for about a week, then siphon off the lavender. You’ll have a very aromatic gin to use. Tip, don’t use a gin that is already very aromatic else you’ll have a combination of too many flavors that might destroy the balance in your cocktail.
I used a London dry Brokers gin, ideal for this creation. However many London dry gins are perfect for this use.

Using that as a base I mixed it with a Belgian rum, the Infamous rum. This premium spiced rum is a unique blend that aged for 8 years. It’s created by the Belgian Infamous D&C brand that was founded last year. It has nice aromas of vanilla, cinnamon and a touch of orange. You could call it an exotic rum bomb, 41% of pure rumfun ;-)
Mostly I’m more a fan of Navy Strength rums but this one was a nice change!

Shake this together with about 5 ounces of grapefruit juice and some ice. Poor the content in an cooled glass and add a sprig of fresh lavender and some grapefruit zest as a garnish. I named this one Frisky Maria, cause somehow flowers in the summer makes me think of Julie Andrews singing in a meadow :-p
Try this one out at home and let me know what you think ;-)
